Magazine Advert

After researching what would be a suitable magazine advert for our artist; once we took into account what is specific about indie magazine adverts. We found out that a heavy focus would be on the artist as he is an up-and-coming artist and therefore there needs to be more focus on him rather than his album. So by putting him within in the centre of the shot with his name in a large capitalised bold font it leaves no ambiguity to who the artist is. Furthermore, an associated theme we wanted the artist to be linked to is outdoors and nature therefore we took our photo shoot within a field surround by trees which can be clearly seen within the shot. Another aspect we wanted to include which ties in with indie conventions was the aspect of performance. As mentioned previously, our artist is up-and-coming therefore we need to highlight as much information as possible about him so by having him playing guitar we can show to the audience of the magazine advert a more detailed personal side to him. In the bottom left hand corner is the QR code which gives an option to a bonus track; another typical feature of indie magazine adverts as it gives the audience more of an incentive to look into the artist as they are offering there songs for free. The links to social networking sites at the bottom further aid his up-and-coming appeal and help boost appeal and popularity. Then lastly the inclusion of the star ratings is centred in the shot and above the artist as if the audience can see that the artist has been awarded and noted by well-known magazines then the audience is more likely to purchase his songs.

Inlay Photo Edits

Along with our digipack front, spine and back cover we have to produce a group of inlay of photos. These photos will be those in which we took on our photo shoot and then we show lyrics from the songs the artist has produced. From inspiration from research of 'Jack Johnson's' album 'Better Together' we edited the photos using camera flare editing techniques as well as vintage effects which conform to indie genre conventions.

Photoshop Album Cover Edit

In preparation for our digipack front, back and spine pictures we used Photoshop to edit and put together a rough outline of what our finished digipack will look like.  In order to maintain continuity we used the same image of the artist holding the guitar in front of him and having his reflection showing. We then cropped the image accordingly, splitting up the individual parts of the image into spine, back and front. Below is what we did:

Examples Of Magazine Adverts

To gain a perspective of what has to be present in a magazine advert I researched artists' magazine adverts from NME magazine; a well-known music magazine.
