In preparation for our editing of our music video, I researched potential editing techniques in which we would use. These include the following:
Cross dissolve: cross dissolve is the editing technique where there is a smooth transition from one clip into the next. It creates a brief overlay at the start of the clip and allows for the two clips to merge. This editing technique will work well when we want a transition from the artist singing into a memory scene.
Split screen: split screen allows there to be two clips playing simultaneously while still being able to watch the two clips. We could use this technique to shoe the artist singing and then have a close up of him playing guitar or have the artist singing whilst there is a memory scene unravelling.
Fast forward: fast forward, as implied by the name, modifys the speed of the chosen clip. This technique could be used to speed up the actions of the artist while he performes.
Slow down: slow motion does the opposite to fast forward and slows down the chosen clip. This technique could be used to slow down the actions in a memory to heighten the nostalgic implication.
